Product description:

This topic has become one of urgency for Muslims because of the Qur'anic injunctions concerning certain financial transactions. We must understand these injunctions and how they apply to the system in which live. As Muslims, what are our choices that will enable us to live a riba-free life? Living in the West this may seem like an impossibility but there are options. The speaker looks at this matter in-depth and discusses alternative forms of financing such as leasing and installment sales. This session is followed by an extensive question and answer period.

"Most of those things that in the English language we choose to call interest are in fact riba." "Riba exists when what we essentially are paying for is the passage of time."

Part 2:

Rafik Beekun, co-author of the book entitled "Leadership: An Islamic Perspective", analyzes some of the common problems encountered in leadership and presents some possible solutions. He draws five lessons from which we can learn in order to be successful as an ummah in the 21st century. Khaled Abou el Fadl then follows with a brief but profound message which is based upon some of the negative feedback he received regarding his book entitled "The Authoritative and the Authoritarian In Islamic Discourses". He shares his thoughts about how this feedback is indicative of the problems facing Muslims in America and the need for there to be cooperation and balance among two very important groups within the Muslim ummah.

"Our leaders need to model the way... You know, in a sense, where that vision is, you've shared it with others- now what kind of example are you giving as a leader or alternately as a follower to place in the sight of others?" -Rafik Beekun

"You will see an Islamic organization do something, they succeed at it, the next month you have two Islamic organizations that are doing the same thing. The next month there are six Islamic organizations doing the same thing. And a year after, all of them are dead because they've duplicated each other to death." -Rafik Beekun

"There is a very unfortunate disconnect in that the activists... have very little to do with the others who are most perservering in the pursuit of the Islamic tradition and the Islamic character." -Khaled Abou el Fadl
